The History of Freyburn Angus

I grew up with a strong herd of Shorthorns which my Dad put together from Scotland and all over North America. I began my Angus herd in 1967 at the Deenbiro Stock Farms Dispersal Sale. I purchased five cows with heifer calves at foot. I dispersed that herd in 1980. We then ran a commercial operation prior to starting our current purebred herd.

Annamae and I, with our family, bought a group of females from Young Dale Angus. We also purchased some top females from the Fall Finale, The Gateway, The Black Harvest, The Masterpiece and the Keystone Classic Sales.

We have mated these females to bulls we have purchased from Young Dale Angus, Wiwa Creek Angus, Ebon Hill Angus and LLB Angus, along with a topnotch AI program. We have also an embryo transplanting program on the go.

All this we have done to achieve strong EPDs, top genetics, strong functional bulls and females with good feet and legs and the power and ability to go out and work for others.

In our cow herd base we are leasing 80 cows from the Bar 20 herd, of Rock Glen, and 50 cows from the Thomason herd from Bethune. Presently we are maintaining a cow herd of just over 200 head.
